Squirrel Earrings!

We were in Spokane over the weekend for the NCAA games, and we visited the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.  More about the exhibits later, but one of the highlights was these adorable squirrel earrings that I found in the gift shop!  Of course I could not pass them up.  They're made by Boma.

Secret Squirrel Cake

Have you been watching The Great British Baking Show?  I think my favorite thing so far this season has been Frances' secret squirrel cake (of course!).  The finale will be this weekend on PBS.

Emily Winfield Martin

One of the discoveries that I made at Pickle Papers was Emily Winfield Martin.  My niece loves things that she calls "whimsy," and Emily Winfield Martin seems to be an expert.  She is a lovely illustrator.  You can find her prints and postcards in her Etsy shop: The Black Apple.  And you can read her blog here.  (I really love this print - it makes me miss my Illinois bunnies and squirrels!)

Yay! Life!

I recently discovered these fun magnets in a gift shop.  I was totally going to get the "Yay! Mountains!" until I saw the "Yay! Squirrels!"...  The web site for the company offers magnets for pretty much anything you can think of, and they ask, "What's your Yay! thing?"

Squirrel Nut Grinder

I think I need to start filling my home with squirrel-themed goods and decorations.  This squirrel nut grinder from World Market is pretty cute!

Squirrel

I'm sure that you all know by now how much I love squirrels.  They are so hilarious and adorable.  It's that time of year again when they come to our yard looking for food.  Here's a visitor that we had the other day.

Car Coasters

One of the things about my new car (new to me, that is) that I don't think was very well thought out is the color of the interior.  It's a black car with a light tan-ish interior.  That's great for the leather seats, but for the carpets not so much.  Also the cup holders seemed to be showing every little bit of fuzz or speck of dirt that came their way.  So to keep them looking presentable I sewed some fun little car coasters.  I just measured the bottom and then sewed some scraps together and trimmed.  (They do have fabric on the back and batting.)  I was happy to use some of the last bits of my favorite squirrel fabric. :)

Squirrel Nutcracker

We have so many squirrels in our yard these days (probably because I feed them)!  So I loved this nutcracker when I saw it at Anthropologie

Wild Squatters

I just saw the cutest story in National Geographic about wild animals living in abandoned cottages in Finland.  "Once Upon a Home" features incredible photography, like this picture of a Finnish squirrel with pointy ears.

County Living Fair T-Shirt

Did you see these adorable t-shirts from the Country Living Fair?  I think it would be really fun to go - or I could just get the shirt...

Oaken Acres Notecards

Last spring we spent some time nursing a couple of baby squirrels whose mama had been shot by our neighbor (I know!). We took them to a wildlife rescue near here called Oaken Acres. This picture is not one of our squirrels, but it is from the rescue. The lady who runs it created a book about some of the animals that she's worked with. We purchased some of the notecards, and they're very cute. On the back they include the stories of the animals.

Beanbags

Just for fun I made some beanbags out of the cute squirrel fabric that I got at Pine Needles at Gardner Village. I really love squirrels and their antics. I hope that there is a special place in Heaven for the squirrels.
