Rocheport House

The other day as we were surfing online we found this house for sale in Rocheport, Missouri.  It's just around the corner from where we used to live, and they have been working on restoring it for years.  I think it's such a cute house, and from what I can see it looks like they did a fantastic job improving it.  A bookcase with a ladder would definitely be a dream come true!

White Horse Antiques Quilts

We got to visit White Horse Antiques as we stopped through Rocheport.  They had a new selection of beautiful red, white, and blue antique quilts.  Aren't these amazing?  I love the designs.

Yankee Peddler Hooked Rugs

I've been working on a hooked rug from a Yankee Peddler kit that I bought at White Horse Antiques in Rocheport. It's been a fun project, and I think I'd like to do more. Mine is a round one with this same leaping rabbit and some stars. I really like the beehive pattern below. I'll have to post some pictures when I'm finished.

T-Shirt Pillows

Much of my sewing consists of straight(ish) lines. Last week I took a couple of old t-shirts and turned them into throw pillows for our chairs. They turned out kind of fun. The pink one is from the Boathouse in Forest Park (in St. Louis). The yellow one says, "I'm a Friend of Historic Rocheport, Missouri." That's the town where we used to live, so these will be fun to have around.

Fleur De Lis Glasses

When we visited Rocheport, I bought a couple of cute little fleur de lis juice glasses from Richard Saunders. They are clear, but you can get a variety of spring colors from Pottery Barn.

Mercury Glass

Finally - here's the mercury glass light that I bought from Richard Saunders as we were moving from Rocheport. It holds a tea light in the bottom. I haven't tried it with one yet, and I'm really not sure how to hang it up. It has a hook at the top. Any ideas? I really love it and would like to use it!

Bear Clock

Last weekend when I was shopping around Rocheport, I got this cute pop-out bear clock at Richard Saunders. It says, You say you saw a floating bear? However can that be? A dog in a barrel and an elephant too? What a wonderful sight to see! It was just too fun to pass up.

Thursday Two Things: Richard Saunders/Scentimental Gardens

Here are a couple more things that I'm going to miss when I leave and that I'll be excited for when I arrive.

1. Missouri - shops in Rocheport, like Richard Saunders.

2. Illinois - Scentimental Gardens in Geneva - I just got clued in to this one by Eddie Ross (check out his post - you'll want to come with me!), and it's not far from where we're moving!

Williamsburg Table Linens

OK, this isn't the greatest picture, but it's all that I could find. I posted previously about a little shop in my town called White Horse Antiques. One of the things that they carry that I really like is Williamsburg table linens. The napkins and quilted placemats are reversible. I usually just buy one napkin and then use it in the center of my table. This picture's from another store, but this is one of the patterns that I bought - and how cute is that round placemat?

Yellow Fields

It was a busy weekend - Tony graduated on Friday night, so we had family here to help us celebrate. It is a lovely time of year in mid-Missouri. This is one of the fields out behind our house. In May it blooms a carpet of buttercups. Can you believe the color?

Richard Saunders

Last February, my sister Sara came to visit me in my little town. I was so excited to have a visitor and was going to drag her to every shop in town. The only problem was that we had a freak snow storm the day that she arrived. We ended up trudging around to find every shop closed - except for Richard Saunders! He lives right on my street in a 170-year-old home and sells wonderful gifts and antiques. If I remember correctly, she found a cool old compass and a magnifying glass for her husband and son, respectively. (I later got one of the compasses for my dad, and he's now using it to teach his Boy Scouts - how cool is that?) We're glad that we can always count on Richard Saunders.

801 First Street

This cute house in my little town is for sale! It started out as a church of some kind, and then it was a restaurant and then another one, and then a couple turned it into a house. It is right at the local trail head of the Katy Trail. From the listing, it looks like the kitchen is in the bell tower area. To the right is a little gazebo, and they had wonderful sunflowers through the middle of the yard last summer. I think it would be really interesting to live there!

White Horse Antiques

Another of my favorite places to shop here in Rocheport is White Horse Antiques. It's just up the street in a little 1840 historic home. (It looks much nicer in this picture than it does today when it's 1 degree outside!) They have fabulous antiques and new items and a little garden shop out back where I love to buy Pre de Provence soap. Sometimes when we're there, their big golden lab named Sam will come to visit. They also sell primitive rug hooking kits. I got one with a rabbit and stars - I just need to find the time to do it!

Manitou Studio

We are really close to having our Christmas shopping done, thanks to our next-door neighbor. He retired this year from teaching ceramics at a small college here in central Missouri. He has pieces in a couple of shops in the area, and he sells out of a little shed in his driveway called Manitou Studio. Lucky for us we can just walk next door and browse anytime he's open. Just another nice thing about living in Rocheport.
