I noticed some beautiful giclee prints hanging on the walls at Sundance.  They were by Michael Workman.  You can see his work here.  He paints lovely scenes of the West.

Old Faithful by Paco Young

We've been out West again.  We drove this time and spent a couple of days in Yellowstone on the way.  It was so great.  We got to stay in the Old Faithful Inn (the east wing) and eat in the historic dining room.  I admired this painting of Old Faithful by Paco Young.  It hangs on the fireplace in the dining room.  (I borrowed this picture from yellowstone-notebook.com.)

Thomas Cole's "The Voyage of Life"

Last weekend we made one of our 24-hour trips to St. Louis.  While we were there, we visited the St. Louis Art Museum, which is really great.  It's housed in one of the permanent buildings from the 1904 World's Fair and is free to visit.  Right now they have a special exhibit featuring all four original paintings from Thomas Cole's "The Voyage of Life" series.  (A second set hangs in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and we saw them last spring.)  The paintings are visually typical of the Hudson River School, and I like the allegory of man traveling the river of life.  This is the first, titled Childhood.  The Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Instituted in Utica, New York, owns all four pieces.

Latter-Day Home Art

Have you browsed Latter-Day Home lately?  They have some really lovely art.  I especially like the Utah/pioneer-themed prints, like this one of seagulls.  And this letterpress version of The Living Christ document is so beautiful.

Art from Deseret Book

I was in Utah over Labor Day weekend to attend the open house for the newly renovated Ogden Temple with my family.  I also visited Deseret Book and found some great artwork.  This piece by Scott Sumner is called Come Follow Me - I love the lambs.  Below is a print of "The Pioneer Temples."

Michael Coleman

When I was at the Nauvoo Temple a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a beautiful painting and made a note of the artist's name.  Michael Coleman is a prominent Southwestern artist from Utah, and his work is reminiscent of the Hudson River School.  This one is similar to the one in the temple.

Brittany Town Morning, Larmor

This stunning painting by Dennis Miller Bunker is held by the Art Institute of Chicago.  I couldn't find it on their site, but I saw it at the museum.  Brittany Town Morning, Larmor is so beautiful, don't you think?

Votive Plaque with God Vishnu

Since I'm taking the jewelry class again I was especially impressed by this piece at the Art Institute.  Votive Plaque with God Vishnu is made of gilt bronze with ivory, semiprecious stones, crystal, and glass.  Stunning.

Foliage--Oak Tree and Fruit Seller

The paintings that the Art Institute holds by Edouard Vuillard are very large and very beautiful.  This one is called Foliage--Oak Tree and Fruit Seller.

The Banks of the Marne in Winter

I love Pisarro.  The Banks of the Marne in Winter is a very lovely oil painting by Camille Pissarro that is held by the Art Institute.

Circassian Cavalry...

In the Auvergne

More Millet!  More sheep!  Jean-Francois Millet's In the Auvergne is a beautiful pastoral scene, held by the Art Institute.

Renoir's True Colors

The Art Institute has an interesting exhibit right now.  Renoir's True Colors demonstrates how the conservationists discovered that the background colors in a Renoir painting are not what they were originally.  The painting is displayed alongside a computer-generated image of what they think the original looked like.  Fascinating!

Meekness

We finally made it downtown a couple of weeks ago.  This winter has been so miserable!  After an hour or two at the Art Institute, I have a lot of great artwork to share.  This one is called Meekness by Eustache Le Sueur.  It's dated 1650, but it look so modern!  I love the lamb.
