Silver Ring

I've been off the radar again...  The end of the semester and finals week were absolutely crazy.  I was taking three classes, but with one of them having studio time I was actually at school full time (without realizing it!).  It will be so nice to have the summer off!  So I may be a little sporadic with my posting again...  Here's a silver ring that I carved from wax and then cast in my jewelry class (and then spent the rest of the semester filing and polishing).

Jewelry Class

I just finished another ring in my jewelry class!  This newest one (top) is a green amethyst.  I made the bottom one last semester.  It's an aquamarine - my husband's birthstone.  I bought some new stones last month so I can make some more bling.  Fun!

Cast Seed Pod

Here is the first completed piece from this semester's jewelry class.  We cast found objects in silver.  This is a seed pod.  I also cast a piece of lavender and a twig - I'll post them when they're cleaned up.  Fun!

Harry Potter Glasses Ring

I saw this awesome Harry Potter ring on Pinterest.  It's from Hot Topic, but they're sold out.  I'm thinking I might have to figure out how to make my own in my jewelry class...

Friday Featured Etsy Seller: Flux and File Metalworks

Flux and File Metalworks is a lovely Etsy shop run by my friend who is the teacher's assistant in my jewelry class.  Jessica creates fabulous pendants and bracelets by etching designs onto metal.  This mountain scene pendant is the only thing available in her shop right now, but she's hard at work!

Jewelry Class

School started again this week, and I'm taking the second jewelry class.  Here are a couple of pieces I made in the intro class.  The first is a brooch.  I cut a dogwood shape out of brass and then layered it with white plexiglass.  The silver dots are rivets holding the piece together.  The bottom picture is a silver ring with the Istanbul skyline etched into it.  (The side that's showing depicts Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.)  I'm excited to learn some new skills this semester!

Jewelry Class

Here's my first assignment from my intro to metal jewelry class.  We were given a strip of copper that we rolled through some rollers to put a pattern on and then cut out shapes and made a clasp.  I used kind of an Islamic design that I cut out of paper with my Cricut.  Sawing is harder than it looks, but this was fun!
