Sistine Chapel Virtual Tour

One of the classes that I'm taking this semester is called "Masterpieces of the Humanities."  We're studying a different masterpiece each week.  We studied Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel one week and viewed an amazing virtual tour online.  See it here.

Friday Featured Art: Michelangelo's Slaves

A year ago we were in Istanbul for spring break.  I was recently looking at some of our photos from the trip.  We had a layover in Paris and got to visit the Louvre.  (That was a dream come true!)  Michelangelo's Captives are almost beyond belief.  The Rebellious Slave and the Dying Slave were carved from marble but left unfinished.  The muscles in the arms and the chests are so incredibly lifelike.  I love Michelangelo.  {These are photos I took.}

Friday Featured Art: Michelangelo

Here is more glorious Michelangelo. I really love his sculpture. This is Dawn and Dusk from the tombs at the Medici Chapel in Florence. Another pair represent Day and Night. The bodies are amazing, but the faces are the most beautiful to me.

Friday Featured Art: Pieta

Today's piece is another that I was reminded of by my art history class. Michelangelo's Pieta (the early one) is so beautiful. I love Mary's face and the composition of the piece. It resides in St. Peter's Basilica - I really must go there someday.
