The week after we returned home from England, we attended the world premiere of Sting's musical, The Last Ship. It opened in Chicago before heading to Broadway this fall. Tony thought that if we went on opening night we might see Sting there. We did. He was in the back by the soundboard but was never mentioned and never addressed the audience. We haven't seen many shows, and we were surprised by the foul language (although looking back I shouldn't have been, knowing it was loosely based on Sting's life and involved sailors...). The songs were very nice, and the show was interesting enough. The set was pretty cool. Most of the songs can be found on Sting's latest album by the same name. I do love Sting's music, though, so I did enjoy the show.

Thursday Tunes: Sting: 25 Years
Sting: 25 Years The Definitive Box Set came out on Tuesday. It's 3 CDs and a DVD and includes a hardcover book with complete lyrics. I already have most of Sting's stuff, and I have The Police box set, so I'm wondering if I need to get this, too. At $110 I'll have to think about it for a while... (Maybe I'll just get the highlight CD that comes out on October 18.)

Thursday Tunes: Symphonicities
Sting has a new album out on the Deutsche Grammophon label. It's called Symphonicities and is a collection of songs by Sting and the Police set to instrumentation by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. I can't wait to pick up a copy! Sample it here.

Thursday Tunes: If On A Winter's Night
One of my early Christmas presents this year was Sting's new album If On A Winter's Night. Have you heard it? There are some classical numbers and some classical Sting numbers. He sounds great, and the instrumental moments are inspiring. It has a perfect Christmas feeling.
