Jaarsma Bakery

During my travels out West and back, I passed through Pella, IA.  It's a fun Dutch town, complete with an authentic bakery.  Jaarsma Bakery sells traditional treats like these almond crispies.  They also have gifts, like these cute Delft windmill earrings that I bought (I found this picture online - not sure why it's showing up sideways...).

Heritage Lace

When we went to Gardner Village over Christmas, we were sad to discover that one of our favorite shops was closing. However, it turned out to be great for us! We all found lovely things for 75% off. My mom picked up some beautiful new curtains by Heritage Lace. Heritage Lace is a company based out of Pella, Iowa, that makes curtains and other fine things for the home. I liked this little placemat with a bunny on it.

Pella, Iowa

Probably because it was so cold last week, I've been thinking about Pella, Iowa. We made a trip there in February three years ago. The high for the day was 8 degrees. We bundled up to explore the little Dutch town but had to run into a shop every few minutes to keep from crying. We stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast called De Boerderij, and it was warm and toasty. Below is the Vermeer Windmill. It was built in Holland and then reassembled in Pella. We really need to go back and see things when the weather is nice!
