Marks and Spencer Treats

The last time we went to England, we fell in love with Marks and Spencer - especially their Simply Food locations.  So they were one of our first stops when we got to Heathrow.  Some of the fun things we found this time included gum in little resealable pouches.  I liked the lemon mint.  (There was also peppermint, spearmint, and a curiously strong mint - like Altoids.)  And we were intrigued to find a veggie version of their famous Percy Pig gummy candies (without gelatin).  We also ate many sandwiches and good British potato chips from M&S over the course of our trip.  Yum!

Summer Berry Meringue Roulade

I was browsing around M&S's food page again and found this recipe. It looks fantastic. Cornflour is corn starch, caster sugar is superfine sugar, and icing sugar is powdered sugar. I'll have to figure out how to convert the amounts that are listed in grams, but I really want to try to make this.

M&S Simply Food

One of our very favorite things about our trip was the department store Marks & Spencer. At first we didn't realize it was a department store because we found an M&S Simply Food shop at the airport. Their food is incredible. We enjoyed drinks like British apple juice and cloudy lemonade (sparkling). We loved the yogurt (yoghurt, as they spell it) with granola or raspberry currant compote to mix in. We couldn't get enough of their sandwiches - cheese and spring onion (grated cheddar with chopped green onions all mixed in mayo), cheese and celery (shaved white cheese with sliced celery in mayo), ploughman's (which I'll get to later). They even had food stores at the rest areas along the motorway (freeway). We ate many breakfasts and lunches of M&S food. Even their American-style donuts were amazing. Tony's wishing that one would open here, but for now we'll just have to steal their ideas!
